It is a dream come true for me,” Alcaraz, who was playing in his fourth grass-court tournament, said.

“Even if I didn’t win, I would still have felt a great sense of pride. Being able to compete at this level and on such grand occasions, especially at the young age of 20, is truly amazing.” I am really proud of myself.

He now holds the record for being the youngest man to win the Challenge Cup since 1986 when 18-year-old Boris Becker claimed his second Wimbledon title.

It is the first time the title has been won by someone other than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic or Andy Murray since 2002.

Hollywood celebrities Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, and Daniel Craig were present on the court, alongside Andy Murray.

In the royal box, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were observing the match.

Carlos Alcaraz’s triumph halted Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of his eighth Wimbledon title, a feat that would have equaled Roger Federer’s record. As the second seed, Djokovic was on course to secure his 24th Grand Slam victory and achieve his fifth consecutive Wimbledon triumph (excluding the canceled 2020 tournament due to COVID-19).

Reflecting on his defeat, Djokovic graciously acknowledged that he had been bested by a superior player and offered his congratulations before shifting his focus. Although he expressed his aversion to losing matches of this nature, he emphasized that he had emerged victorious from numerous tightly contested battles in the past. Undoubtedly, this loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Djokovic.

In anticipation of the match, Alcaraz expressed the significance of facing a “legend within our sport,” which added an extra layer of importance to the final. He emphasized his belief that to become the best, one must overcome the best, and Novak undoubtedly fell into that category. Alcaraz spoke optimistically about the prospect of defeating Djokovic, highlighting the opportunity to showcase his skills against such a formidable opponent.

Their most recent encounter took place during the French Open semi-finals last month, where Djokovic dominated the last two sets with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
